DESCRIPTION
Hand cut and polished pieces of Sleeping Beauty turquoise, Red Spiny Oyster shell, Black Jet and Mother of Pearl are set in mosaic channel inlay style within this sterling silver bezel. The band itself is designed with a heavy gauge of shimmering and polished sterling silver.

INFO
Native American silversmiths use their own techniques in developing their designs in their jewelry. They work with small pieces of coral, jet and turquoise arranged in complex patterns. The small cut stones are set in to the jewelry by 3 different techniques. Needlepoint, channel or mosaic inlay. In needlepoint each stone is individually cut then mounted in its own silver bezel. When doing channel work, the silversmith constructs a honeycomb of silver pockets or channels. Within the channel he cements a small piece of stone. Mosaic inlay has its origin in the prehistoric techniques. Cut stones are arranged side by side into a mosaic which is enclosed in a silver bezel which is then mounted on a silver plate.

Spiny oyster is a clam shell oyster that can be found between the Northeast coast of Mexico and the East coast of Baha California in the Sea of Cortez. The shell functions the same as all clam shells but it is quite ugly on the outside with long hard extensions and a rough shell. The rest of the shell can be beautiful in different colors ranging from red, orange, yellow, purple and other shades. Each shell is cut in different sizes and shell pieces are polished for use. Much like a rough stone the polishing brings out incredible gorgeous colors! Native Americans have used shells for decades for various reasons from wampum as money to shells for jewelry.
The small pits in the shell show its authenticity. Manmade shells, made of an epoxy or plastic material, will be smooth with no pits or grooves.

Sleeping Beauty Turquoise
The Sleeping Beauty mine is seven miles outside of Globe, Arizona. Its turquoise is noted for its solid, light blue color with no matrix. The host rock is usually granite. Sleeping Beauty turquoise is the favorite of the Zuni Pueblo silversmiths for use in petit point, needlepoint and inlay jewelry. This mine is one of the largest in North America. Monty Nichols, owner and miner of the Sleeping Beauty mine, says that the mine is producing well, about 1600 pounds a month. Of that, only 4% is natural. Most of the turquoise from the mine, 80-90%, is altered in some way. Most of that percentage is enhanced, which is more expensive than stabilization, and sold to large distributors in this country and Europe. Now, most of the turquoise that comes out of that mine comes form the tons of tailings piles that have been accumulating all these years.

SIZE
This ring is a size 10. Measuring from the center front is .70 inches top to bottom and .50 side to side. The shank tappers down to measure .20 inches or 4.0 mm at the terminal back and the bezel and stone measure 5.6 mm thick.

BRACELET SIZE
If you are not sure of your wrist size for a bracelet, try these steps~
Wrap a loose measuring tape or piece of string around the bone area of your wrist from point to point. Where the measuring tape meets together you will see your wrist size. If using a string, lay it flat on a ruler and you will determine your size. It is highly recommended that you buy only the bracelets that will fit your wrists. To stretch a bracelet to fit on your wrist, not only are you putting stress on the silver but also on the stones - so please know your sizes! All of our items are inspected and mailed with stones intact.

We travel to New Mexico, the Native American jewelry capital of the world, and visit other artists throughout the Southwest 4 to 5 times a year to purchase direct from the traders or the artists themselves. My mother was born and raised in the West and still lives and works in the Grand Canyon. The Native Americans have always been a part of our lives and we have always surrounded ourselves with their culture and beautiful works of art.
All of our items are bought directly from individual artists or from well established, well known wholesalers and traders between Gallup, the reservations, Santa Fe and Albuquerque. We love to buy directly from the artists so we can support their craft as well as provide them a living for their incredible talents. It helps to bypass the middleman so we can send money back to our adopted families at the reservation.

It is against the law to post an item as authentic Native American if it is not. We do our best to describe each piece by the description, where it came from and the artist. We guarantee you will not find any fake, cheap or imported jewelry on our site. All of our items are Authentic Native works of art. All of our jewelry contains genuine silver, silver, gold and contains no pot metal, nickel, rhodium, pewter or other precious metal substitutes.
